Mehak Shahid, 24, from Punjabi community of Quetta, has the title of being first sports female journalist of Balochistan, largest province of Pakistan. Balochistan was in news for the ethnic violence short period ago.
As per the first female sports journalist of Balochistan, “I had a fear regarding my voice as it sounds little bit different and this fear killed my confidence”. I had a dream of becoming sports journalist from my childhood as I used to watch sports especially cricket, she added.
I decided to tackle my fear, so I joined Media Studies Department University of Balochistan for becoming my dream into a reality. Many laughed when for the first they heard my voice, but I had committed with my self “not to lose confidence and to serve my province”.
The 24 years Mehak has produced maximum number of video packages, audio features in previous two years. She made her presence possible in Bugti Cricket Stadium Quetta for the coverage of Quid-e-Azam trophy matches months ago. The female journalist is promoting the talent of Balochistan in sports sector from last 24 months.
The people of other provinces of Pakistan are having misperceptions about Balochistan. I haven’t faced any type of ethnic discrimination in my life, she expressed. I never faced any sort of hatred from Baloch or Pakhtuns neither my family has. I always used to visit grounds for my work but never faced any sort of misbehave from the locals. But gender equality can be questioned in Balochistan and the female literacy rate of the province confirms that.
The female sports journalist shares her work through different social media platforms. She runs a Facebook page and upload her videos reports on YouTube channel.
Mehak Shahid is promoting the message of peace and love through her work. She considers it as a pride for being the first female sports journalist of the province.
