Honour Killing is a big form of domestic violence that causes various threats to human life especially to women.The number of women and men are being killed in the name of honour in 2018 as well. A father killed his daughter and her family in Hafizabad Punjab this year as she had married by her own choice years ago.Same cases are happened in other three provinces of the country recent year. How can I forget the murder of social media star Qandeel Baloch in the name of honour by her brother. I know atleast about two cases of honour killing happened in my own city Zhob since January 2017.
Eventhough there is little bit positive change in attitude to gender based violence in Pakistan but progress remains catious in most part of the country.Though a law exist named " Anti honour killing law " but it's not effective in curbing the issue.It is unable to formulate effective punishment against the guilty.Non serious attitude of policy makers toward this issue is a contributing factor other reasons like culture of violence and lawlessness cannot be ignored.
The pratice of honour killing must be stopped at any cost.We have to change our mindset towards women as there is no word of " honour " in killing. Religious scholars must come ahead to play their role in eradicating the honour crime. Parents have to understand that mixed marriages are considered as normal throughout the world in today's digital age.We can support the victims who suffer psychiatric issues, Zero tolerance policy to be implemented about "Honour Killing" across the country.
